Final Blog:

The electronic house key concept started out as just a as small gadget with limited features. This idea eventually became a company/business with a headquarters and a product with many different variations and forms. Originally it was just an item to put on your keychain. It had only the option to lock the door. Eventually you were able to open the door and set the alarm. It transformed into a bigger product. It was a smartphone app and a standalone device. This product needs wireless technology to be in the product and in the house/door. There are also needs a security feature that makes sure the correct people are entering the house and not intruders.
I think this product could be useful, but it needs to be thought out more. There needs to be one variation of the product that is focused on. Products/companies don't do as well when there are many options and one is not the clear focus.

Week 7 - Networking

The importance and need for a network depends on the business and the product. If the company is going to have a lot of websites, their company is going to involve a lot of networking. They will need to acquire domain names and ip addresses from ICANN.
With the future of domain names expanding. My business could have a website like remote.house or house.remote or re.mote. If I have websites like that or similar to that, no one will be able to dispute those names. It would be not be trying to make money or use someone else's property. If my business had an office or headquarters with a lot of computers and or servers there is definite need for a network. The computers will have to be connected and have to be running the same software. Also, it is necessary that the employees can log into any of the computers. In addition, I need to be able to access the computers remotely from my house if necessary.

Week 6 - OS

As this product expands and becomes larger and larger and more popular, it needs to be compatible with more and more operating systems. There needs to be an iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch app so it needs to be able to run iOS. It also needs to run Android OS. As the company and product grows we can come out with apps for windows mobile os and blackberry. Since each mobile os uses different programming languages and those two are not as popular, it is better to hold off on producing apps for those at first. This will not be a high tech/largely multitasking app. It will be able to the the simple tasks listed in other blogs. They will all have simple command buttons. There can also be a pc/mac program if need be, that can come later. The portable device apps are the priority.
There will be no need for it to be open source. No one needs to make this program/app better other than the company developers. If it is open source, there can also be people stealing the company's code and making their own product that is very similar.

Week 5 - Blogger Review

I am reviewing the New York Times's BITS section (Business Innovation Technology Society) blog about the Facebook app that was finally released for the iPad. This app has been long awaited. People who had iPads and wanted to look at Facebook had three options. First they could use Safari and go to Facebook that way. Second, they could use the Facebook for iPhone app and just enlarge it. This way was not that enjoyable because it wasn't made for the iPad so it did not fit smoothly. The last method is to use other Facebook for iPad apps that were available, none of these are very good because they are not made by Facebook.
The blog mentioned that the creation of a Facebook app will help Apple and Facebook more than people might think. This is the first Facebook app for an Android or iOS tablet. Since so many people spend hours on Facebook, being able to look at Facebook naturally on an iPad will make a lot of people more willing to spend the extra bucks to get one.
In the blog, they explained when it took so long. There were disagreements between Facebook and Apple about the integration of the Social Network Ping. Apple also wanted to make sure the app was as good as it could be before it was released. The blog quoted Bret Taylor, Facebook's Chief Technology Officer, ' “We really feel that we have built an app that takes full advantage of touch, photos and chat.”.'
Facebook also wanted to take advantage of multi-touch and the LED display so that this app could wow people.

Week 4 - Input & Output

The input and output part of my entrepreneurial-ship idea is probably the most important. It is what the whole concept runs on, being able to wirelessly, without putting the key in the lock, open, close, set the alarm and other things people set or do before leaving their home. This concept could start out simple and expand exponentially. There are many things to do with this idea, you could make an app for phones, you could make it built in cars, or even built in the car key so that the car key and the house key are one thing.

Eventually it is necessary to make an iphone, android and other smartphone apps. The idea of this whole concept is easy of use and combining multiple steps in the process of leaving a home and leaving it secure. Making the home key built into a phone is crucial. Someone should be able to take out their phone and lock the house, set which motion detectors they want on, set the alarm and even watch the security cameras around their house. As useful as this is, it is absolutely necessary that there are no security flaws. This can be password protected, voice protected or even a fingerprint scanner can be added.

Separate from an iphone app, the actual key uses RFID technology. First you should configure the setting. You should be able to set if you would like it to automatically lock the dock once you leave the home or you can set it so you still have to set it as locked. Going back home and unlocking the door is going to need much more security, obviously you can't just be able to open the door by being near the door. That would be a major security flaw. You will need to type in a code and the key needs to be able to recognize that it is in-fact you. One idea is that each key is only assigned to one person, no one else can use it even a family member. This will increases security and make sure some people can't break in.

Week3 - Computer Forensics

Identity theft is a very important thing to pay attention to for people and companies. People need to make sure they are doing everything they can to keep their private data from getting into the hands of the wrong people. There are many easy steps people can take to limit the chances of identity theft, but they are rarely attempted. Companies, on the other hand, have a much bigger obligation to keep their information private because they store information from many people including employees and customers. There are always stories of companies' credit card databases getting compromised and this information going public. There was also a cade of University of Wisconsin where their Social Security Number database got hacked.

For my company, it is crucial that all the company's information cannot be accessed but unauthorized people. If there is a website associated with my high tech house key and people order the keys from the website then credit cards numbers are going to be transferred. This MUST be secure, whether they are kept for easy access at another point for the buyer or if they need to be processed once. Also, we need to guarantee the customers that if they leave this website that their numbers will not be stored and will not be able to be accessed at a later. Although we learned that this is only possible in extreme measures, the computers will have maximum protect until it is time for them and their hard drive to be destroyed.

In the last blog, I talked about the company's use of spreadsheet for the customer and employees' information. This spreadsheet should not be accessed by anyone unauthorized. The computer needs to be password protected and excel needs to be as well if possible. It is always better to have too much security than too little. In the main version of the spreadsheet it might be smarter if the credit card number only showed up as the last four digits and the full credit card could only be accessed if someone is authorized.

Week 2 -Spreadsheet Essentials

Spreadsheet is very handy for any business or person or group that wants to organize data. Excel, which was the main spreadsheet covered, is useful with any amount of knowledge. If you don't know much about spreadsheet, it is useful to just enter data in an organized way. If you are a little more familiar, using formulas and calculations make it very helpful. Then more advanced users know how to use pivot tables and other advanced tools to maximize the value of spreadsheet. Spreadsheet is only as useful as much as the user wants to make it.
For my entrepreneurial idea, spreadsheet can be useful in many of the steps in the process. Spreadsheets can be used to organize different models, different orders and organize the employees and their pay and work hours.  For the remote control key for the home, there is endless possibility for models. There can be simpler keys just lock and open the door, there can be keys can turn on and off the alarm, these would need some sort of keyboard or typing in capabilities. There are also options for screens that someone could watch cameras that are in their house to make sure children and doing homework or that their house isn't being burglarized. A spreadsheet can help organize the different models, components of each model, price of each individual component and the total price of each.
The graph option in spreadsheet can also be helpful in this potential business. The graph can show how manufacturing has gone up or down and how ordering has gone up or down.  The graphs are easy on the eyes compared to lists and lists of words and numbers. Graphs simply show up trends or down trends  or if there is no trend at all.

First Blog

For my entrepreneurship project I chose a knockoff of another popular gadget. I decided to create a high tech remote control key open for a home instead of a car. It has been around for cars for a while so it should have to houses by now, but it has not. There are many situations when this could be extra help and useful.

One situation hits close to home in Syracuse, NY. When it is blistering cold out and you don't want to have take your key out of your pocket and put it in the lock. There might even be a chance where the lock is frozen shut. This can all be avoided with an automatic opener. All you have to do is click the button in your jacket pocket and the door will be unlocked.

Another situation this is very helpful in is another similarity to a car, the alarm. There will also be a button to set the alarm. If you are in rush to drive your children to school you can run out of the house shut the door and with a press of a button, lock the house and turn the alarm on. This key will also have heat, AC, and DVR capabilities.
